Pressure Profiles of Galaxy Clusters Measured from X-ray and Sunyaev-Zel'dovich Observations
Abstract
Recent studies suggest that galaxy cluster pressure profiles follow a universal form, and that integrated pressure correlates strongly with cluster mass. However, the behavior of pressure far from the cluster center (r > r_500) is relatively poorly measured. We use X-ray data from Chandra and Sunyaev-Zel'dovich Effect data from the South Pole Telescope (SPT) to better constrain the pressure profiles of six massive z 0.3 galaxy clusters out to large radius, and to test the validity of models in this regime. This work is part of a long term project with SPT to study the thermal structure and baryon distribution in clusters out to their virial radius with combined X-ray and Sunyaev-Zel'dovich measurements.
